Bathroom cabinet door2009

If you watch the home decorating shows on television, you may have noticed that the design professionals sometimes add decorative panels onto the front of cabinet doors. These decorative cabinet panels are mounted in the recessed area on the front of a cabinet door. Not all cabinet fronts are recessed, but many are. You’ll see them used most often in kitchens but these decorative cabinet panels can be used on the doors of bathroom vanities and really, any other type of cabinet in the home. The decorators don’t often comment about the cabinet panels as it’s not typically treated as one of the primary design elements in the kitchen or bathroom they’re updating, but the designers use these panels nonetheless. And to great effect.

One of the reasons the professional interior decorators use these cabinet panels is that they offer an easy way to bring a style element into a room, but in a way that is completely under the control of the designer. For example, let’s say all the kitchen cabinets are painted an off-white. The homeowner or designer then decides they would like to add some color to this big, white wall of cabinets. By using removable panels as opposed to simply painting the cabinet fronts, they can change the design quickly and easily as their decorating vision evolves. The idea of being able easily to remove the panels is key, because your style will change over time. Two, five or ten years from now there will be great new decorating ideas and with a removable panel, it’s super easy to stay up-to-date.

And we’ve all had occasions where we’ve had a new idea or concept “grow on us.” So let’s say that you’ve initially added two cabinet panels that compliment your counter tops, but that over time you really begin to love the color or texture you’ve chosen on your panels, well at this point it’s really easy to add more. It’s also easy to change the style of the panel or to remove them entirely, especially if you happen to get a new counter top. You’re in charge. In addition, the room is more cohesive because the color of the cabinet panel compliments the counter top. By adding interest to your cabinet doors, the eye is naturally drawn to them and your kitchen or bathroom can seem bigger or at the very least, more interesting.
